Timothy
Lynch - President, Teamsters Local 1250
What
Mr.
Lynch said to an audience of thousands, including 1800 elected
delegates
representing 1.4 million workers, is the means of America’s
understanding
at last the cause of economic exploitation and of prejudice.
Ellen
Reiss, Class Chairman of Aesthetic Realism
Selected commentaries by Ellen Reiss from

Realism to Be Known--on poetry, current history, and other
subjects; description of classes she's taught, biographical
information.
Bruce
Blaustein - fashion company
executive,
in Senior
News (Suffolk, NY), on "A Father Seen Anew"
On the second day of the
new century,
my father, David Blaustein died....I had a sense of great loss which
took
in the painful realization that I would never see him again, and
yet—and
this is why I am writing this article—I also felt tremendous gratitude
for the true friendship we came to have in these past years.
Devorah
Tarrow - in The Rock
IslandArgus,
( Ill.) "Profit Motive of Drug
Companies
Damaging Seniors' Lives"
People all over the
country are outraged
at what senior citizens must pay for prescription drugs....I was
shocked
hearing a PBS report about the enormous prices senior citizens pay ....
Seniors go to Canada or Native-American reservations to buy drugs--for
cancer, diabetes, pain as real as yours and mine!
The
place
of contempt in the human mind is understood only by Aesthetic Realism.
Contempt, the "disposition in every person to think he will be for
himself
by making less of the outside world," is the fundamental cause of
cruelty
in cultures everywhere (see Self and World, 1981, pp. 1, 15).
Contempt
is what Ashley Montagu is describing in Man: His First Two Million
Years
....
Edward
Green, composer, on "Aesthetic Realism Explains the Beauty
of Jazz
and of Duke Ellington"
First
presented
in Washington, D.C. at an annual conference of the International
Association
of Jazz Educators, with the sponsorship of the Smithsonian Institution,
this talk was given on April 10th in celebration of Duke Ellington's
centennial....
My
first
acting training at the School of Performing Arts was based on the
Stanislavski
method—a method I have enormous respect for. He says: "We need a broad
point of view to act." That is exactly what Aesthetic Realism provides.
It ... says that the purpose of acting is to care for the world
honestly,
not to escape from it....acting shows a person's desire to become other
people as a means of becoming more oneself.
I
began to
work in a factory, and got a little sense of what people had to endure:
up to 120 degree heat; speeded-up assembly lines; husbands and wives
working
different shifts so one of them could take care of the children, and
hardly
seeing each other. This was in Motorola’s Franklin Park plant..."
Lynette
Abel and Michael Palmer on
"Enron
fallout is appalling"
We
are saddened
by the personal accounts of individuals who are directly affected: a
father
who doesn't know how he will be able to meet mortgage payments on his
home,
the husband who suddenly lost all his company health benefits just as
his
wife became seriously ill, a woman nearing retirement age, whose 401(k)
plan is now worthless.
